Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The game between third ranked Anhui W. (6-2) and twelfth ranked Anhui P. (2-6) was the most important one in the last round on Friday night. Anhui W. was edged by Anhui P. in a tough game in Fuzhou 97-99. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Anhui W.. The hosts trailed by 5 points after three quarters before their 25-18 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Anhui P. dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Anhui W.'s 50. The best player for the winners was American guard Steph Hicks (198-92, college: CS Northridge) who scored 38 points (!!!) and 4 assists. His fellow American import forward DaQuan Cook (205-87, college: St.Bonaventure) chipped in 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 7 steals. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Elijah Holman (208-89, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Pensack Sports) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points and 15 rebounds. Anhui W.'s coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Anhui P. moved-up to eleventh place. Anhui W. at the other side keeps the third position with two games lost. They share it with Henan. Anhui P. are looking forward to face bottom-ranked Luoyang (#13) at home in the next round. Anhui W. will play against the league's leader Guangxi (#1) where they are definitely not considered as a favorite in this game either.

It was a good game for German center Maik Zirbes (208-90, agency: BeoBasket) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 33 points (!!!) and 30 rebounds. Dominique Jones contributed with 26 points, 5 rebounds and 10 assists for the winners. Guangxi's coach felt very confident that he used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American guard Anthony Tucker (193-89, college: MSU Moorhead) answered with a double-double by scoring 45 points (!!!) and 14 assists for Hefei. Undefeated Guangxi (8-0) have an impressive series of eight victories in a row. They maintain first place with a perfect record of 8 victories in a row. Hefei lost third consecutive game. They keep the eighth position with five games lost. They share it with Wuhan. Guangxi will play against Anhui W. (#3) at home in the next round, which may be the game of the day. Hefei will play against Guizhou (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game in Guizhou was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Henan (6-2) played at the court of 6th ranked Guizhou (4-4). Henan defeated Guizhou 110-97 on Friday. Mike Harris stepped up with a double-double by scoring 32 points and 19 rebounds for the winners. The best for the losing side was Russ Smith with 42 points (!!!) and 7 assists. Guizhou's coach let to play eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Henan moved-up to third place, which they share with Anhui W. Loser Guizhou keeps the sixth position with four games lost. They share it with Chongqing. Henan will meet Chongqing (#6) in the next round. Guizhou will play against Hefei and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
The game with biggest result difference took place in Xian. Local Shaanxi X. (8-1) outscored 5th ranked Hunan (5-4) 116-93. Troy Gillenwater nailed 38 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 7 assists for the winning side. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. The victory was the seventh consecutive win for Shaanxi X.. They maintain second place with 8-1 record having just one point less than leader Guangxi. Hunan at the other side keeps the fifth position with four games lost. Shaanxi X. will have a break next round. Hunan will play at home against Beijing (#10) and hope to win that game.

In the last two games of round 9 Chongqing defeated Wuhan in Lanling 113-108. Beijing beat Hebei X. at home 127-122.



Wuhan - Chongqing 108-113

Everything could happen at the game between two tied teams. Both seventh ranked Chongqing and 9th ranked Wuhan had identical 3-4 record. But Wuhan was not able to use a home court advantage and was defeated by the opponent from Lanling 113-108. Wuhan was ahead by 1 point at the halftime before a 30-20 third quarter run of Chongqing. 27 personal fouls committed by Wuhan helped opponents get some easy free throw opportunities. Ukrainian power forward Igor Zaytsev (210-89) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points and 14 rebounds for the winning side and American Brandon Brown (201-85, college: CS San Bernar.) accounted for 28 points and 14 rebounds. Brown is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Chongqing players scored in double figures. American swingman Devin Green (201-82, college: Hampton) came up with a double-double by scoring 35 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds and American-Puerto Rican center Peter Ramos (222-85) added 26 points and 8 rebounds respectively for Wuhan in the defeat. Chongqing (4-4) moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Guizhou. Wuhan at the other side dropped to the eighth position with five games lost. Chongqing's next round opponent will be higher ranked Henan (#4) at home and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Wuhan will play against Hebei X. (#12) and hope to win that game.

Hefei was better in fourth quarter 31-28. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. They dominated down low during the game scoring 76 of its points in the paint compared to Hefei's 48 and made 16-of-20 charity shots (80.0 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Hefei 60-30 including a 24-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. Guangxi players were unselfish on offense dishing 26 assists.
