It's still too early stage of the Regular Season in NBL, but even now we can clearly see the differece between stronger teams and outsiders. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.



Hefei - Hebei X. 131-126

The game between closely ranked teams ended with 9th ranked Hebei X.'s (1-4) road loss to eighth ranked Hefei (3-2) 126-131 on Wednesday. The hosts trailed by 13 points after three quarters before their 40-22 charge, which allowed them to win the game. Hefei looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Hebei X. was plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American guard Anthony Tucker (193-89, college: MSU Moorhead) who had a double-double by scoring 48 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 16 assists. His fellow American import forward Antonio Campbell (206-94, college: Ohio) chipped in a double-double by scoring 24 points and 13 rebounds. Swingman Yannan Li (195-92) produced a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!) and 24 rebounds and American point guard Kenny Hayes (186-87, college: Miami, OH, agency: BeoBasket) added 39 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 6 assists respectively for the guests. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Hebei X.'s coach let to play ten players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Hefei moved-up to sixth place, which they share with Hunan. Loser Hebei X. dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Hefei will face Hunan (#7) in Changsha in the next round. Hebei X. will play on the road against Anhui W. and hope to win that game.

Anhui W. - Beijing 130-93

The game with biggest result difference took place in Anhui. Local Anhui W. (4-1) outscored 11th ranked Beijing (1-4) 130-93 on Wednesday night. The game without a history. Anhui W. led from the first minutes and controlled entire game increasing their lead in each quarter. They dominated down low during the game scoring 78 of its points in the paint compared to Beijing's 30. Anhui W. forced 21 Beijing turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists comparing to just 9 passes made by Beijing's players. Beijing was plagued by 27 personal fouls down the stretch. The best player for the winners was American power forward Elijah Holman (208-89, college: Detroit Mercy, agency: Pensack Sports) who had a double-double by scoring 24 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (on 11-of-12 shooting from the field). Swingman Wenbo Yang (196-90) chipped in 17 points. Five Anhui W. players scored in double figures. American forward Alex Young (198-89, college: IUPUI) produced 35 points (!!!) and 7 rebounds and forward Yuming Li (195-95) added 15 points respectively for the guests. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Anhui W. moved-up to second place, which they share with Henan and Shaanxi X. Loser Beijing dropped to the tenth position with four games lost. Anhui W. will face Hebei X. (#11) at home in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Beijing will play against Luoyang and hope to win that game.

Anhui P. - Guizhou 109-130

Bottom-ranked Anhui P. (0-4) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 130-109 loss to sixth ranked Guizhou (3-1) in Fuzhou on Wednesday evening. The guests trailed by 5 points after first quarter, but they stormed back to get the 4-point lead at the halftime and eventually won the game 130-109. Guizhou made 24-of-29 free shots (82.8 percent) during the game. American point guard Russ Smith (183-91, college: Louisville) stepped up and scored 54 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds for the winners and American-Nigerian center Chris Otule (211-90, college: Marquette) chipped in 24 points and 9 rebounds (on 9-of-10 shooting from the field). American guard Steph Hicks (198-92, college: CS Northridge) responded with a double-double by scoring 40 points (!!!) and 11 rebounds and point guard DaYong Wang (187-87) scored 13 points and 6 assists. Four Anhui P. players scored in double figures. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guizhou moved-up to fifth place. Loser Anhui P. still closes the standings with four games lost. Guizhou will meet league's leader Guangxi on the road in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Anhui P. will play against Chongqing (#9) and hopes to get finally their first victory.

Henan - Hunan 126-121

An exciting game between Top Four teams was played in Henan. Second ranked Henan faced 4th placed Hunan. Host Henan (4-1) defeated guests from Changsha (3-2) 126-121. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Hunan. It was a key game for the second position in the league. The hosts started the game with a very strong first quarter 30-21. But Hunan won second period 32-27. However it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Henan looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 12 passes made by Hunan's players. The best player for the winners was American Mike Harris (198-83, college: Rice) who had a double-double by scoring 22 points, 20 rebounds and 8 assists. Nigerian-American point guard Josh-Emmanuel Akognon (180-86, college: CS Fullerton) chipped in 29 points and 9 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line). American guard OJ Mayo (193-87, college: USC) produced 33 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and Canadian center Liam McMorrow (218-87, college: Tenn Tech, agency: Slash Sports) added 16 points and 9 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Henan and five Hunan players scored in double figures. Hunan's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Henan maintains second place with 4-1 record having just one point less than leader Guangxi, which they share with Anhui W. and Shaanxi X. Hunan at the other side dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with Hefei. Henan will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Hunan will play at home against Hefei (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Luoyang - Shaanxi X. 96-107

Bottom-ranked Luoyang (0-5) tried to put together a comeback for its first victory of the season, but they fell short in the 107-96 loss to third ranked Shaanxi X. (4-1) in Luoyang. But it was rather predictable considering how strong their opponent was. The game was mostly controlled by Shaanxi X.. Luoyang was better in third quarter 25-22. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. South Sudanese-Lebanese center Ater Majok (208-87, college: Connecticut) nailed a double-double by scoring 31 points, 11 rebounds, 5 assists and 5 blocks for the winning side and American forward Troy Gillenwater (205-88, college: N.Mexico St.) accounted for 33 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 4 assists. Four Shaanxi X. players scored in double figures. Shaanxi X.'s coach allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. American point guard Braylon Rayson (175-94, college: Cent Michigan) came up with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) and Salvadorean-American center Ronnie Aguilar (216-87, college: CS Dominguez H.) added 18 points and 11 rebounds respectively for Luoyang in the defeat. Shaanxi X. have a solid series of three victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Henan and Anhui W. Luoyang at the other side still closes the standings with five games lost. Shaanxi X.'s next round opponent will be Wuhan (#8) which should be theoretically an easy game. Luoyang will play against Beijing (#10) and looks forward to get finally their first victory.

Undefeated leader Guangxi delivered the fourth consecutive victory. This time they beat 7th ranked Wuhan (2-2) 116-106. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Wuhan. The game was mostly controlled by Guangxi. Wuhan was better in fourth quarter 27-23. But it was not enough to take a lead and get a victory that evening. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 21 assists. Forward MingHao Li (199-92) orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 13 rebounds and 7 assists. American guard Dominique Jones (193-88, college: S.Florida) contributed with 18 points, 8 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners. American swingman Lamar Patterson (196-91, college: Pittsburgh, agency: Pensack Sports) answered with 34 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 5 assists and American-Puerto Rican center Peter Ramos (222-85) added 20 points and 11 rebounds in the effort for Wuhan. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Guangxi have a solid series of four victories in a row. They maintain first place with 4-0 record. Wuhan at the other side dropped to the eighth position with two games lost. Guangxi will play against Guizhou (#5) at home in the next round. Wuhan will play against Shaanxi X. in Xian and hopes to get back on the winning track.
