CBA Regular Season is still in too early stage and there may be still significant changes in the standings. There was no lack of interesting games this round. The round ended with favorites losing the games and even winless team recording their first victory. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

The most interesting game of round 5 was a home defeat of 6th ranked Xinjiang Flying Tigers (3-2) to fourth ranked Long-Lions (4-1) 106-101. Long-Lions forced 22 Xinjiang Flying Tige turnovers. Strangely Xinjiang Flying Tige outrebounded Long-Lions 60-38 including a 19-7 advantage in offensive rebounds. American point guard Kyle Fogg (190-90, college: Arizona) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 6 assists for the winners and his fellow American import power forward Marreese Speights (208-87, college: Florida) chipped in 29 points and 7 rebounds. American-Bulgarian point guard Darius Adams (188-89, college: Indianapolis, agency: IPZ) responded with a double-double by scoring 27 points, 10 rebounds and 8 assists. Long-Lions have a solid series of four victories in a row. They moved-up to third place, which they share with Liaoning FL and Shanghai S. Xinjiang Flying Tige at the other side keeps the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Long-Lions is looking forward to face Monkey Kings (#19) in Jiangsu in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Xinjiang Flying Tige will play on the road against Leopards (#8) in Shenzhen and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Very important is a road loss of second ranked Leopards (3-2) against eighteenth ranked Blue Whales (2-3) on Tuesday night. Visiting Leopards were defeated by Blue Whales in a tough game in Sichuan 115-121. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Leopards. American Jamaal Franklin (196-91, college: San Diego St., agency: Slash Sports) nailed a double-double by scoring 47 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 8 assists for the winning side and Jason Thompson accounted for 30 points and 10 rebounds. American forward Jared Sullinger (206-92, college: Ohio St.) came up with 38 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 4 assists for Leopards in the defeat. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Blue Whales moved-up to eleventh place, which they share with 4 other teams. Leopards at the other side dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Blue Whales will play against Gold Lions (#18) in Tianjin in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Leopards will play at home against Xinjiang Flying Tige (#9) and hope to get back on the winning track.
Monkey Kings has registered their first victory this season after four consecutive losses. The win is especially important as it came on the road game in Tianjin, where they defeated Gold Lions (1-4) 121-109 on Tuesday. The best player for the winners was Joseph Young who scored 40 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 5 assists (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line). Monkey Kings' coach Gintaras Krapikas used a ten-player rotation and allowed the starting five to rest. Taylor Rochestie produced a double-double by scoring 36 points (!!!), 5 rebounds, 15 assists and 5 steals (was perfect 10-for-10 from the free throw line !!!) for the hosts. Monkey Kings left bottom position moving up to sixteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Gold Lions. Monkey Kings will meet higher ranked Long-Lions (#4) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Gold Lions will play against Blue Whales (#15) in Sichuan and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
CBA top team - Guandong Tigers (5-0) had no problems winning another game. This time they crushed seventh ranked Golden Stars (3-2) in Dongguan 120-96. It ended at the same time the three-game winning streak of Golden Stars. Sonny Weems orchestrated the victory with a double-double by scoring 32 points, 6 rebounds and 10 assists. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Undefeated Guandong Tigers have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain first place with 5-0 record. Golden Stars at the other side dropped to the sixth position with two games lost. Guandong Tigers' next round opponent will be Jiangsu Dragons (#14) in Nanjing which should be another easy win for them. Golden Stars will play on the road against Sturgeons (#6) in Jinjiang and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Bottom-ranked Fly Dragons (0-5) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fourth ranked Flying Leopards (4-1) 139-122 on Tuesday evening. Americans were the main players on the court. Lester Hudson stepped up and scored 32 points and 7 rebounds for the winners. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Defending champion moved-up to third place, which they share with Shanghai S. and Guangzhou LL. Fly Dragons lost their fifth game in a row. They still close the standings with five games lost. Flying Leopards will face league's second-placed Golden Bulls in Hangzhou in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Fly Dragons will play on the road against Jilin Tigers (#12) in Changchun and hope to get finally their first victory.

There were no shocking results in the rest of the games of round 5: Zhejiang Ch. won against Jilin NE T. on the opponent's court 116-103. Jiangsu D. unfortunately lost to Shanghai S. in a home game 103-117. Bayi R. was rolled over Fujian S. on the road 81-103. Shanxi Z. defeated Qingdao E. on its own court 120-109. Beijing Ducks lost to undefeated Guangsha L. in Hangzhou 88-95.
The most impressive stats of the last round was 39 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Jimmer Fredette of Shanghai S..

Very expected game in Changchun where 12th ranked Jilin Tigers (2-3) were defeated by fifth ranked Golden Bulls (5-3) 116-103 on Tuesday. Golden Bulls made 19-of-23 free shots (82.6 percent) during the game. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Jilin Tigers were plagued by 25 personal fouls down the stretch. American guard Marcus Denmon (191-90, college: Missouri, agency: BeoBasket) stepped up and scored 34 points (!!!), 6 rebounds and 7 assists for the winners and his fellow American import forward Tyler Hansbrough (206-85, college: N.Carolina) chipped in 28 points and 11 rebounds. Polish-Swedish power forward Maciej Lampe (211-85) responded with a double-double by scoring 28 points and 14 rebounds and American guard Dominique Jones (193-88, college: S.Florida) scored 23 points, 6 rebounds and 7 assists. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Jilin Tigers' coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Golden Bulls moved-up to second place. Sharks dominated down low during the game scoring 70 of its points in the paint compared to Jiangsu Dragons' 48 and made 26-of-31 free shots (83.9 percent) during the game. Sharks forced 22 Jiangsu Dragons turnovers and outrebounded them 42-30 including 28 on the defensive glass. Jiangsu Dragons were plagued by 26 personal fouls down the stretch. American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89, college: BYU) stepped up and scored 39 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds (was perfect 7-for-7 from the free throw line) for the winners and Argentinian-Spanish power forward Luis Scola (206-80) chipped in 20 points and 9 rebounds. Bottom-ranked Fly Dragons (0-5) is still winless. This time they could not use their home court advantage losing their fifth consecutive match to fourth ranked Flying Leopards (4-1) 139-122 on Tuesday evening. Flying Leopards dominated down low during the game scoring 80 of its points in the paint compared to Fly Dragons' 34 and made 26-of-34 free shots (76.5 percent) during the game. Flying Leopards looked well-organized offensively handing out 23 assists. Fly Dragons were plagued by 24 personal fouls down the stretch. Americans were the main players on the court. Lester Hudson (190-84, college: Tenn-Martin) stepped up and scored 32 points and 7 rebounds for the winners and forward Brandon Bass (203-85, college: LSU, agency: IPZ) chipped in 22 points and 12 rebounds.
