Round 3 means everything may happen in CBA as the season just started. The round was rather attractive and full of interesting results. The round ended with loss of the undefeated team and favorites losing the games. Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Flying Leopards (2-1) recorded a loss in Yingkou on Thursday night. Hosts were defeated by Sharks (2-1) 104-91. Sharks dominated down low during the game scoring 68 of its points in the paint compared to Flying Leopards' 48. They outrebounded Flying Leopards 53-41 including 23 on the offensive glass. The best player for the winners was American point guard Jimmer Fredette (188-89, college: BYU) who scored 37 points (!!!), 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Argentinian-Spanish power forward Luis Scola (206-80) chipped in 16 points and 6 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American Lester Hudson (190-84, college: Tenn-Martin) who recorded a double-double by scoring 22 points, 10 rebounds and 6 assists. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Sharks is looking forward to face Jilin Tigers (#9) in Changchun in the next round which should be theoretically an easy game. Flying Leopards will play at home against Beijing Ducks (#5) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
Guandong Tigers delivered the third consecutive victory. This time they crushed Blue Whales (1-2) 138-111 in Dongguan. It was a good game for the former international Jianlian Yi (212-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds. Malcolm Delaney contributed with 23 points, 11 assists and 5 steals for the winners. American power forward Jason Thompson (211-86, college: Rider) answered with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 17 rebounds for Blue Whales. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Guandong Tigers will play against Xinjiang Flying Tige in Urumqi in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Blue Whales will play on the road against Long-Lions (#10) in Guangzhou to get more than just one victory in their record.
A very close game took place in Shenzhen between Leopards and Fly Dragons. Leopards (2-1) got a very close home victory over Fly Dragons (0-3). Leopards managed to escape with a 1-point win 137-136 on Thursday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. It was a great evening for Kenny Boynton who led his team to a victory scoring 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 8 assists. The best for the losing side was Pierre Jackson with a double-double by scoring 67 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Fly Dragons' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Leopards will meet Eagles (#15) in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Fly Dragons will play against Bayi Rockets and hope to get finally their first victory.
A very interesting game took place in Changchun. It ended with only two-point defeat on the road of Brave Dragons (1-2) to Jilin Tigers (2-1) 89-87 on Thursday evening. It was an exceptional evening for Maciej Lampe who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 25 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists. Brave Dragons' coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players, but that didn't help to avoid defeat in this game. Jilin Tigers' next round opponent will be Sharks (#4) in Shanghai. Brave Dragons will play on the road against Gold Lions (#20) in Tianjin and hope to win that game.

Other games of round 3 were quite predictable and ended without any surprises. Here they are:
winless Tianjin GL were crushed by Beijing Ducks in a road game 98-77. Shandong GS beat Bayi R. at home 105-90. Winless Nanjing TX MK lost to undefeated Guangsha L. on the opponent's court 95-116. Jiangsu D. managed to outperform Fujian S. in a home game 118-108. Zhejiang Ch. lost to undefeated Xinjiang FT on the road 97-101.
The best stats of 3rd round was 42 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 7 assists by Darius Adams of Xinjiang FT.



Guangzhou LL - Qingdao E. 105-88

We should mention about the upset which took place in Guangzhou, where Eagles (1-2) lost to Long-Lions (2-1) in a road game 88-105 on Thursday. The best player for the winners was American point guard Kyle Fogg (190-90, college: Arizona) who scored 29 points, 8 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 steals. His fellow American import power forward Marreese Speights (208-87, college: Florida) chipped in 21 points and 8 rebounds. At the other side the best for losing team was American power forward Dakari Johnson (213-95, college: Kentucky) who recorded a double-double by scoring 23 points and 18 rebounds and guard HanJun Chang (185-92) added 24 points and 5 rebounds respectively. Four Eagles players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Long-Lions will face Blue Whales (#16) in Sichuan in the next round which should be an easy win for them. Eagles will play at home against Leopards and hope to win that game.

A very close game took place in Shenzhen between Leopards and Fly Dragons. Leopards (2-1) got a very close home victory over Fly Dragons (0-3). Leopards managed to escape with a 1-point win 137-136 on Thursday evening. Host team only slightly avoided a big embarassment. Leopards dominated down low during the game scoring 66 of its points in the paint compared to Fly Dragons' 42 and made 29-of-38 free shots (76.3 percent) during the game. It was a great evening for American point guard Kenny Boynton (188-91, college: Florida, agency: Higher Vision Sports) who led his team to a victory scoring 36 points (!!!), 7 rebounds and 8 assists. His fellow American import forward Jared Sullinger (206-92, college: Ohio St.) helped adding 22 points, 7 rebounds and 5 assists. There was no surprise when Gold Lions (0-3) were crushed on the road by Beijing Ducks (2-1) 98-77 on Thursday. Beijing Ducks looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. The best player for the winners was Croatian-American center Justin Hamilton (213-90, college: LSU) who had a double-double by scoring 28 points, 13 rebounds, 4 assists and 4 blocks. American guard Aaron Jackson (190-86, college: Duquesne) chipped in 22 points and 8 assists. At the other side the best for losing team was American center Cole Aldrich (211-88, college: Kansas) who recorded a double-double by scoring 26 points and 14 rebounds and guard DeShuai Shi (192-92) added 16 points and 6 rebounds respectively. Since the result was very predictable, it gave the chance for the coaches to test many bench players and allowed the starting five to get some rest. Beijing Ducks will face Flying Leopards (#6) in Yingkou in the next round. Gold Lions will play at home against Brave Dragons (#13) and look forward to get finally their first victory.

They also forced 22 Blue Whales turnovers. Their players were unselfish on offense dishing 32 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Blue Whales' players. It was a good game for the former international Jianlian Yi (212-87) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 30 points and 12 rebounds. American guard Malcolm Delaney (191-89, college: Virginia Tech) contributed with a double-double by scoring 23 points, 11 assists and 5 steals for the winners. Xinjiang FT - Zhejiang Ch. 101-97

Not a big story in a game in Urumqi where Golden Bulls (3-2) were defeated by Xinjiang Flying Tige (3-0) 101-97 on Friday. However just four-point win is not that big difference and the fans of host team counted on more convincing victory. Strangely Golden Bulls outrebounded Xinjiang Flying Tige 52-29 including a 19-2 advantage in offensive rebounds.
