Ryukyu was finally tested in the Terrific 12 and they passed with flying colors. The Golden Kings took down the Guangzhou Long Lions Sunday in the Finals, 85-76, winning the Asia League's Terrific 12 tournament at the Studio City Event Center here. Tied at 70 with less than five minutes to go, Ryuichi Kishimoto (176-G-90) drilled two booming treys to help Ryukyu escape with the title. The first was a triple from way out with 4:04 to go for a 73-70 Ryukyu lead. Kishimoto then fired another one with 1:17 left to give the Golden Kings a 78-72 advantage. It was a close game all throughout but the Golden Kings pulled ahead early in the fourth with a 10-0 run for a 70-60 lead. However, the Long Lions, winners of the Super 8 tournament, responded with their own 10-0 blast capped by a triple from Mingxin Ju (200-F/G-93). Unfortunately for Guangzhou, that only set up Kishimoto's heroics on the part of the Golden Kings. Kishimoto was awarded with a Finals MVP award for his effort. Kishimoto tied Josh Scott (208-F-93, college: Colorado, agency: Pensack Sports) with 21 points each to lead the Golden Kings. Jeff Ayres (206-F-87, college: Arizona St.) and Ira Brown (193-F-82, college: Gonzaga) scored 11 apiece. Ryukyu went undefeated in the Terrific 12 and entered the Finals with an average winning margin of 20.3 points. The Golden Kings previously beat iECO by 28 points, Xinjiang by 15, and Nagoya by 18 points. The Long Lions, who narrowly missed out on sweeping the 2018 Asia League season, got 40 big points from Kyle Fogg (190-PG-90, college: Arizona). Mingxin added 13 but Mo Speights struggled for only nine points on 2-of-15 shooting.
