Marcus
Haislip
Gaziantep Basketbol (BSL) strengthened their roster with addition of experienced 36-year old American power forward Marcus Haislip (208-104kg-80, college: Tennessee). He played in the summer at Guizhou in Chinese NBL league. Haislip managed to play in three leagues in two countries last year (!!!). In 12 NBL games he recorded very impressive stats: 28.9ppg, 11.3rpg and 1.3bpg. Great season indeed as he was voted to Chinese NBL All-Star Game. The last season he played at Turk Telekom where in 18 BSL games he averaged remarkable 15.6ppg and 4.5rpg. Haislip also played 4 games in FIBA Europe Cup where he had high stats: 17.0ppg and 3.0rpg.
In 2002 Haislip was drafted by Milwaukee Bucks (NBA) in first round (13th overall). He attended University of Tennessee and it will be his 15th (!!!) season in pro basketball.
Among other achievements Haislip's team made it to the African Champions Cup Final Four in 2014. He received also Afrobasket.com All-African Champions Cup 1st Team award in 2014.
Haislip is a very experienced player. Thanks to his pro career he managed to play on four different continents (Europe, Asia, Africa and of course North America) in six different countries. Haislip has played previously professionally also in Greece (Panathinaikos), Lebanon (Champville), Spain (Laboral Kutxa), Tunisia (Club Africain) and Turkey (Anadolu Efes, Trabzonspor and Eskisehir Basket) and China (Guandong Tigers, Jiangsu Dragons, Foshan and Leopards).
He is close to retirement age as a player. It may be one of last seasons in his extensive career, which he may end at Gaziantep.
The scouts decsribe him following way: A versatile player who spends most of his time in the paint but can also come out and play on the wing. Not so many players have the physical skills he does. Has an impressive vertical jump and runs the court better than guards. He's also a willing defender who can block lots of shots.

Gaziantep Basketbol roster for 2016-2017:

Guards:
Erden Eryuz
Altan Erol
Will Cherry

Forwards:
Jure Balazic
Marcus Haislip

Centers:
Tomislav Ruzic
Dejan Ivanov

Coach: Stefanos Dedas

Thompson's double-double lands him Player of the Week award - 3 days ago
JASON THOMPSON 32-year old power forward Jason Thompson (211-F/C-86) put on an amazing game in the last round for Sichuan BW and receives a Interperformances Player of the Week award for round 47. He had a double-double of 35 points and 27 rebounds, while his team beat Zhejiang Ch. (#12, 23-23) 119-114. The game rather meaningless between the teams, which do not have any influence on top of the standings. Sichuan BW is placed at 18th position in Chinese league. Too late to salvage t...   [read more]
