Shanxi beat Beijing to win 3rd straight WCBA title - Mar 5, 2015

Shanxi edged Beijing 72-70 on Thursday, winning the WCBA finals series 3-1 for their third straight title. Moore Maya (183-SG-89, college: Connecticut) had 35 points, almost half of Shanxi's total points, to play a key role in Shanxi's milestone night. Beijing was the WCBA champion in the 2011-2012 season. Beijing fought to the last second, but a three pointer from Beijing failed to beat the buzzer. Ji YanYan (182-G-85) had 11 points for Shanxi. Moore made her very first basket, leading Shanxi to start the game with 5-0. Beijing shooters leveled the score 5-5 with their jump shots. Beijing's Griner Brittney (203-C-90, college: Baylor) had dominative advantage in the painting area, but Shanxi did better in fastbreaks. Beijing played a much more physical second quarter. As Shanxi added up fouls, Beijing regained the lead 40-37. The host team finished the first half 42-37. Moore collected 17 points in the first two quarters. On the other side of the court, Griner Brittney had 21. Shanxi had the first seven points in the third quarter, forcing Beijing head coach Xu Limin to take a time out after less than three minutes into the game. Moore controlled the court with three straight jump shots, and Shanxi rallied back to hold a six-point advantage. Beijing rest Griner Brittney in the later half of the third period, only to see Shanxi center Wei Wei getting a couple of baskets from inside. Shanxi ended the quarter 56-52. The host team tied the score after Griner Brittney and Zhang Fan (188-F-84) made a basket each, but Moore replied with stronger attack. Shanxi kept leading by six points with less than three minutes left. A time out stopped Shanxi from extending the lead, but Beijing didn't take the chance. Griner Brittney topped Beijing with 10 points. Zhang Fan added 10.

Shao Ting shines in WCBA All-Star Game - Jan 24, 2015

Beijing forward Shao Ting (183-F-89) became the Most Valuable Player with 24 points in Saturday's Chinese Women's Basketball Association (WCBA) All-Star Game here. Shao led the North All-Star team to beat the South team 111-96. The 25-year-old forward also had a brilliant performance in the World Championship last summer, which gave Chinese fans a deep impression. A 11-0 run in the third quarter helped the North team lead by as many as 15 points before the final period. The South team failed to fight back in the final quarter, only seeing their opponent to revenge for last year's All-Star loss. Shao Ting and Griner Brittney (203-C-90, college: Baylor) led the North team with 24 points apiece while Fowles Sylvia (198-C-85, college: LSU) contributed a match-high 25 for the South team. As along with her 12 rebounds, Griner also completed three dunks to amuse the audience. "I really enjoyed the All-Star game today," said Shao Ting. "It's a good chance to meet new and old friends. And it's also a good chance to play with some of the best players like Moore Maya (183-SG-89, college: Connecticut) and Griner." [ Moore Maya, the Invincible Queen, snatched in four money balls to win the three-point shootout by 21 points. Ji YanYan (182-G-85) of Heilongjiang used 29.66 seconds to beat Zhao Shuang (188-F-90) and Peng Shiqing in the skills challenge.
