Sam Tiong Keng turn furious on Knights to inch towards playoffs- August 29, 2019
Knight Fury thought they had a spot in the semi-finals of the Agong Cup. Or so they thought. Because there was a certain element of underestimating the opponent. And Knight Fury certainly found out the hard way as Melaka's Sam Tiong Keng Youth brought them back to reality with a stunning 58-52 win in Division 2. With the top 2 teams from Division 2 earning a chance to face the third-fourth teams in Division 1 and a chance to get promoted, Knight Fury were definitely very motivated. But they had a rude shock to start as the STK team got off to a flying start to lead proceedings. It got a little bit more scrappy after that as both teams were misfiring a lot of shots. But when the going got tough, it was STK who really got going as former Westports Malaysia Dragons' big man Yoong Jing Kwaan (200-C-90) stepped up in some style. The Knights really couldn't find a way to penetrate a resilient STK defence with Yoong Jing proving to be a rock on both ends. And the end result was certainly massive for STk as they put themselves in a good spot to make the semi-finals while the Knights are now staring at elimination. Yoong Jing led the way for STK with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Joon Lock Wee (181-PG-96) dropped 13 points and Wee Joon Zhi had 10 markers. For the Knights, it was a really poor showing with only Kwan Jo Ee getting into double figures, the big man with 10 points and 12 rebounds. |
