Knight Fury thought they had a spot in the semi-finals of the Agong Cup. Or so they thought. Because there was a certain element of underestimating the opponent. And Knight Fury certainly found out the hard way as Melaka's Sam Tiong Keng Youth brought them back to reality with a stunning 58-52 win in Division 2. With the top 2 teams from Division 2 earning a chance to face the third-fourth teams in Division 1 and a chance to get promoted, Knight Fury were definitely very motivated. But they had a rude shock to start as the STK team got off to a flying start to lead proceedings. It got a little bit more scrappy after that as both teams were misfiring a lot of shots. But when the going got tough, it was STK who really got going as former Westports Malaysia Dragons' big man Yoong Jing Kwaan (200-C-90) stepped up in some style. The Knights really couldn't find a way to penetrate a resilient STK defence with Yoong Jing proving to be a rock on both ends. And the end result was certainly massive for STk as they put themselves in a good spot to make the semi-finals while the Knights are now staring at elimination. Yoong Jing led the way for STK with 16 points and 11 rebounds while Joon Lock Wee (181-PG-96) dropped 13 points and Wee Joon Zhi had 10 markers. For the Knights, it was a really poor showing with only Kwan Jo Ee getting into double figures, the big man with 10 points and 12 rebounds.
In another Division 2 game, Miri Firehorse stamped their class by thrashing Speed Hunters 75-36. Speed Hunters are however not out of the reckoning just yet and need a big win against STK on Wednesday to give themselves a shot.
In Division 1, it was a excellent for both Negri Sembilan teams. Team A - Negri Sembilan were just way too strong as they walloped the Armed Forces 126-40. Seven NS players got into double figure scoring with Yi Hou Wong (196-F-96) (26 points) leading the likes of Liang Chuan Yek (188-F-97), Chun Hong Ting (193-C/F-96), Perry Lim, Wee Yiang De (182-G-99), Mak Lok Seng and Chin Zi Shin in scoring at will.
Team B - NS Matrix on the other hand survived a fierce first challenge by Perak before pulling through with a 74-49 win. The Silver state had looked capable of pulling off an upset as the Teoh Yi Kang-inspired team stormed to a 23-15 first quarter lead. But their early efficiency slowly fizzled out as they struggled to deal with the inside presence of Liew Wei Yuong and Yap Zhi Wei. Additionally, the mercurial Heng Yee Tong caught fire for the Matrix late in the game to put the contest well beyond Perak's reach. Yee Tong would finish with 20 points and 5 rebounds while Zhi Wei put in 16 points and 14 rebounds and Wei Yuong firing off 15 points and 12 rebounds. The result means Matrix are likely to finish third in Division 1 with Perak to occupy fourth spot.
