As the only unbeaten team in the Cambodian Basketball League with 11 wins on the trot, Extra Joss Fighters are looking for a quick kill following their first-round rout of Team Respeck in the second game of the best-of-three quarterfinal play-offs at the Olympic Stadium Indoor Arena on Saturday. Averaging close to 90 points per game, the Fighters won 82-41 against Team Respeck last week and will be difficult to beat when they hit the floor with a well-rounded squad in the first clash of the day at 3pm. ALLN, a heady mix of Westerners and Filipinos, have emerged as the second-best team with their only loss during the round robin inflicted by the top ranked side. Last week ALLN swarmed all over Smart Dragons in a 71-33 thrashing and are all set to seal the quarterfinal deal in the day's second fixture. Sunday offers an interesting fare with Davies Paints and Blue Thunder, who narrowly lost their first-round games to Bayon Airlines and MSGM Beasts, respectively, fighting for their survival in the crucial second game. Airlines cast aside Paints 85-70 though the margin failed to truly reflect the intensity of the fight. The Paints are determined to come up with something extra this time to ground the Airlines and steer the contest to a decider. Meanwhile, MSMG Beasts, predominantly made up of locally based Singaporeans and South Koreans got the better of Blue Thunder 85-71, but may run into much stiffer resistance from the All Khmer side in game two. While October 8 has been set aside for the quarterfinal play off deciders should these fixtures spill over to game three, the semifinals are marked for the next day. The third-place playoff and the title showdown have been fixed for October 15.Defending champions Mekong Tigers had finished the round robin with 13 points and should have finished in eighth place. But they were deducted six points for walking off their last game with Smart Dragons, thus pushing to the bottom of the table.
