The much-maligned second Bayon Airlines Basketball Cup wrapped up on the indoor court of Olympic stadium in Phnom Penh on Sunday, with controversy-racked Chinese side Anh Hui triumphing over the Extra Joss Fighters in the tournament's finale. The second iteration of the cup, which began in December, has been plagued with trouble, the latest of which saw violent scenes end one of Anh Hui's games. The team was initially handed an indefinite suspension, but it was reduced to only one game. ALLN Confucius Supermen, the squad on the receiving end of the violence, withdrew from the competition, citing a hostile and 'violent' atmosphere. Anh Hui, boasting a team full of imported Chinese stars, put the controversy behind them to clinch the cup with an emphatic 103-76 win. The Bayon Cup was supposed to serve as the lynchpin of a basketball weekend in Phnom Penh. The Cambodia Basketball League (CBL) was due to hold its first game of the season on Saturday, as it said on signs around Olympic Stadium and online. But no games were to be found, and repeated attempts for comment from the CBL were ignored.
