Smart Dragons, Extra Joss Fighters Win Big, ALLN Records another Blowout - Apr 8, 2016

On Sunday, the Olympic Stadium Indoor court held the first round of games counting for the final stage of the Bayon Basketball Cup. The 10 best teams from the first stage are competing for a coveted spot in the final four of the inaugural tournament. In the first game of the day, the Smart Dragons faced Wat Koh HS. The Smart Dragons had key player Tayyaba Adam (173-PG-85) missing, while Wat Koh was only able to field six players on the roster - which in the end proved critical Both teams struggled with their shooting in the game and their field goal percentages were particularly low in the first quarter. With many missed outside shots, both teams were even at 9-9 at the end of the first ten minutes. In the second quarter, Ben Laird helped the Smart Dragons regain their confidence, scoring seven points, although Sok Samnang (180-C-92) and Meas Ravuth (175-F-89) kept the score close. By halftime, the Smart Dragons only had a two point lead. After the restart, Wat Koh kept their zone defense tight, a tactic the Smart Dragons struggled to counter offensively. However, in the last quarter, stamina started to make the difference as Ibou N'Diaye (13 points) capitalized to stretch the Dragons lead. With four minutes to play and a 10 point lead for the Smart Dragons, Wat Koh, through injury and fouled players, were forced to continue with just four players on court - slumping to a 56-45 defeat. In the next game, Extra Joss Fighters took on Youth 157. Jomar Santos was in a particularly unforgiving mood for the Fighters. The all-Khmer Youth 157 struggled especially in defense, as Extra Joss' Sander David was indomitable from under the rim. At the end of the first quarter, the lead was a 12-point margin as the rest of the game followed the same vein, with Extra Joss eventually recording a heavy 82-46 win.
The day's other games saw Bayon Airlines chip in an easy win versus Defu Group, 81:45, while An Hui defeated the all-Chinese Guangdong 79:56. In the final game of the day, the undefeated ALLN Confucius Supermen faced the Taiwanese players from Loda Wang. ALLN made no mistake as they tallied another blowout win 112-40. Dong was the outstanding player for ALLN, scoring a total of 34 points, with six baskets from behind the arc.
The Bayon Cup will now take a Khmer New Year break and resume on April 24th with a much anticipated clash between Bayon Air and ALLN on the cards.

Extra Joss beat Redbuff in CBL 2019 opener - 2 days ago
Extra Joss beat Redbuff 79-58 in CBL 2019 opener. Alapad Jhoven top-scored for the winners with 19 points and Davids posted 14. Hong replied with 14 points in the losing effort and Harold posted 10. In another game Krom Soben eased past Asian Baller 105-49. Chea Puthsokakada top-scored for the winners with 26 points.   [read more]

Cambodia Bounce Back to Win vs Brunei as Vietnam prove too strong for Laos - 6 months ago
Cambodia bounced back from their day 1 defeat to Vietnam to Trash Brunei 101-34 in game 2 of the FIBA Cambodia Friendship Game at the Indoor hall of the National Stadium. It was huge relieve for Coach Austin Koledoye tutored side after failing to rise to the occasion in the opening game on Friday losing 62-63 to Laos. Brunei to send team for Cambodia basketball meet - 6 months ago
BRUNEI Basketball Association (BBA) will represent the country in the Cambodia Friendly Game from December 27-30 in Phnom Penh, Cambodia. The tournament, which focusses on youth participation aged below 20 years, will see teams from Laos, Vietnam and hosts Cambodia participating.
