Following a boost in popularity in recent years, the Cambodia Basketball Federation (CBF) has announced it is reforming its structure, scope and programs in an attempt to maintain the growth of the sport in the Kingdom. After a successful outing of the men's team at the 28th SEA games in Singapore in June and the continued popularity of the CBL - now in its third season and attracting sponsorship from the likes of Angkor Beer and Smart - the CBF signed an agreement with Cambodia Premier Entertainment Ltd (CPE) with the aim of promoting, developing and designing programs and events to enhance growth. Speaking to Federation Media Officer Ken Gadaffi after the signing, second vice president of the Federation Ly Plong was optimistic. 'We are looking at how to reform basketball in Cambodia, Through this agreement, CPE will help to seek for sponsorship for the CBF, organize basketball events such as the CBL, youth tournaments, 3x3 games, regional tournaments and other events to promote Cambodian basketball,' he said. Meanwhile, first vice president of the Federation Ouk Sethycheat, who is also the second vice president of the National Olympic Committee of Cambodia (NOCC), revealed that the Federation, in collaboration with the NOCC, will send two athletes and one coach to Doha, Qatar for training in the OCA's Youth Development program for 3 x 3 basketball. 'We want to start to prepare U13 and U16 for the future, we are keeping our sights on SEA games 2023 and so we must go back to the grassroots to search for talents' he said. Kenneth Kim, secretary general of the CBF, was hopeful about the partnership. 'This partnership offers us endless opportunities to reach out and inspire more individuals to pick up a basketball,' he said. 'It's a slam dunk for the sport and the country.'
