WOLVES and Mum's Bakery emerged winners of the Boys and Girls categories in the 3 on 3 basketball tournament organised by Brunei Basketball Association (BBA) yesterday. The winners will represent Brunei in the International Basketball Foundation (IBF) Youth Leaders Basketball Cup in Bali, Indonesia from September 6-10. Wolves edged Splash 21-20 in the final match to win the Boys category, while Nocturnal team took third place.
In the Girls category, Mum's Bakery overpowered SMJA 21-1. Rozes team were third. Members of the winning teams will gain world class basketball experience through the programme as well as able to participate in a Youth Leadership Seminar where they will learn and develop essential life skills such as communication, teamwork and leadership. 'I recently attended the IBF Youth Leadership Seminar in Singapore and felt that I have gained lots of knowledge and benefitted from the programme. This motivated me to organise the tournament so that others will have the opportunities to experience the same learning that I had,' said the organiser of the 3 on 3 basketball tournament Ruby Ang. 'I can proudly say Ruby is one of the success stories of IBF's Basketball For Good Programme. She oversees all aspect of this 3 on 3 tournament from inception to its final execution. Not an easy fete for a youth at her age,' General Secretariat of BBA Lim Fung said. 'BBA is committed to play a part in achieving Brunei Vision 2035. We strongly feel that basketball can be used as a platform to impart key values such as hardwork and perseverance and skills such as communication and leadership. These values and skills are essential for the future success of Brunei youth,' Lim Fung added. IBF is the social and educational arms of FIBA (International Basketball Federation). Through its 'Basketball For Good Programme', IBF seeks to use basketball as a tool to initiate positive change and develop youth around the world.
