THIRTEEN Under-18 basketball players had the opportunity to improve their skills in a session with NBA G-League Assistant Coach Damien Cotter yesterday at the Brunei Basketball Association's (BBA) court. 'It's great to work with the kids. We worked on some basics and concepts of the game. We also did a bit of work on executing the game plan,' said Cotter. To be successful at five-on-five structures, 'we need to have a good concept. And to have a successful concept, we need to be at a good skill level.' 'In the development progress, we need to address skill works and concept before moving on to five-on-fives,' he added. The assistant coach also stressed on the importance of fundamentals. 'Getting better in fundamentals is crucial. It's not only applicable in Brunei but also everywhere in the world. It is preferable to start at grassroots level but in reality, even at the senior level, you still need to address the basics and continually nourish those skills,' he said. The session was organised by the BBA in an effort to build on the skills of young basketball players.
