Basketball Champions League Asia round 1 (Qualifying Round) best performance: Dominic Gilbert (by Hoops Agents)

Croatian Swingman Dominic Gilbert (198-G/F-1996, agency: BIG) had an amazing evening in the last round for top-ranked Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions, receiving a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 1 (Qualifying Round).
The 27-year old player had a double-double of 26 points and 10 rebounds, while his team beat NS Matrix (#4, 0-1) 80-73. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. It allowed HK Eastern to consolidate first place in the Basketball Champions League Asia 9A. But it's just the very beginning of the Qualifying Round and HK Eastern won just one (their first) game. It's too early to say anything as the standings can be changed completely after next round. In the team's last game Gilbert had a remarkable 54.5% from 2-point range. He turned to be HK Eastern's top player in his first season with the team. Former University of British Columbia star has very solid stats this year. Gilbert is league's best scorer averaging so far 26.0ppg. Gilbert is in league's top in rebounds (4th best: 10.0rpg), assists (9th best: 5.0apg) and averages impressive 54.5% FGP.

The second best player in last round's games was young American Donald Muepo-Kelly (201-F-1994) of Adroit. Muepo-Kelly had a very good evening with 21 points, 9 rebounds and 5 assists. Bad luck as Adroit lost that game 74-98 to Khuleguud (1-0). The Qualifying Round is still at the very beginning and this lost game may not be such crucial, of course if they start win the games. Let's wait for the next round. Muepo-Kelly is one of the most experienced players at Adroit and has a reputation of one of team's most reliable players. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 21.0ppg (#6). His other stats are also decent: 9.0rpg and 5.0apg. Former University of South Alabama star Muepo-Kelly is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market.

Third on the list of top players last round was another HK Eastern's star - Canadian center Chris McLaughlin (208-C-1992). McLaughlin showcased his all-around game by recording 16 points, 11 rebounds (!!!) and 4 assists in the last round. He was another key player of Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions, helping his team with a 80-73 win against #4 ranked NS Matrix in a game of the week. HK Eastern has a very good start of the Qualifying Round. But there was just one game played, so it's too early to judge them at this stage. McLaughlin also has a very good start of the Qualifying Round with very strong stats. The season just started for McLaughlin as he played only first game. But it already looks like he can be another team's leader.
