Regular Season Round 5: Meralco Bolts - Ryukyu GK 97-88

The game between third ranked JapaneseGolden Kings (2-2) and fourth ranked Filipino Meralco Bolts Golden Kings were defeated by Meralco Bolts in a tough game in Manila 88-97 . It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Golden Kings. Meralco Bolts made 25-of-29 free shots (86.2 percent) during the game. The best player for the winners was American guard Zach Lofton (193-1993, college: NM State, agency: Slash Sports) who scored 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds. Filipino-American guard Chris Newsome (187-1990, college: Georgetown, KY) chipped in 27 points and 8 rebounds (on 8-of-9 shooting from the field). American forward Victor Law (201-1995, college: Northwestern, agency: Pensack Sports) produced 27 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and swingman Keita Imamura (191-1996) added 19 points and 5 rebounds respectively for the guests. Four Ryukyu players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Meralco Bolts left bottom position moving up to third place, which they share with Seoul Knights. Defending Japanese champion Ryukyu dropped to the second position with two games lost.
