Date: October 29, 2023
The biggest surprise of round 8 was guest Kagoshima's (6-2) easy road victory over Toyoda (#8) 85-60 on Sunday evening. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Kagoshima made 7 blocks. The best player for the winners was American swingman Anthony Gaines Jr. (195-1993, college: LCU) who had a double-double by scoring 18 points and 13 rebounds. The other American import Kyle Richardson (200-1991, college: Portland St.) chipped in a double-double by scoring 15 points and 13 rebounds. Guamanian-American guard Earnest Ross (198-1991, college: Missouri, agency: Haylett Sports) produced a double-double by scoring 12 points and 14 rebounds and American Daniel Laster (199-1996, college: Gardner-Webb) added 10 points and 8 rebounds respectively for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Kagoshima have a solid three-game winning streak. They keep a position of league leader, which they share with 3 other teams. Toyoda at the other side dropped to the fifth place with three games lost. They share the position with 4 other teams. Kagoshima is looking forward to face Shinagawa (#13) at home in the next round which should be another easy win for them. Toyoda will have a break next round.
