There was an upset in Tokyo where second-ranked Nagasaki (5-1) was defeated by seventh ranked Hitachi SRT (1-5) 85-78 on Saturday. Hitachi SRT made 20-of-26 free shots (76.9 percent) during the game. The former international forward Josh Hawkinson (208-1995, college: WSU) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds and 8 assists for the winners and American Ryan Kelly (211-1991, college: Duke) chipped in 26 points and 10 rebounds. Five Hitachi SRT players scored in double figures. American forward Matt Bonds (196-1995, college: St.Michael's) responded with 16 points, 9 rebounds and 4 assists and the other American import power forward Nick Perkins (203-1996, college: Buffalo) scored 18 points and 7 rebounds. Nagasaki's coach rotated ten players in this game, but that didn't help. Hitachi SRT left bottom position moving up to sixth place, which they share with 4 other teams. Newly promoted Nagasaki still keeps top position with one game lost. They share it with 3 other teams. Hitachi SRT will again meet at home higher ranked Nagasaki (#3) in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Nagasaki will have a break next round.
