There was a small surprise when seventeenth ranked Gifu (1-3) defeated at home 15th ranked Veertien Mie (1-3) 105-90 on Sunday. Gifu made 19-of-24 free shots (79.2 percent) during the game. Gifu outrebounded Veertien Mie 38-26 including a 17-6 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. American-Dominican forward AJ Bramah (201-1999, college: Nevada) fired 23 points and 5 rebounds for the winners. American center Baylee Steele (213-1997, college: Duquesne, agency: One Motive Sports) chipped in a double-double by scoring 16 points and 11 rebounds. Four Gifu players scored in double figures. American forward Josh Martin (201-1995, college: Santa Clara) produced a double-double by scoring 22 points and 14 rebounds and his fellow American import guard Justin Pierce (201-1998, college: UNC) added 18 points and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Both coaches tested many bench players saving starting five for next games. Gifu left bottom position moving up to thirteenth place, which they share with 3 other teams including defeated Veertien Mie. Gifu will meet Okayama (#15) on the road in the next round. Veertien Mie will play against Toyoda and hope to win that game.
