Regular Season Round 14: Catfish - City Wings 81-86

The most shocking disappointment of round 14 in the VBA was a home defeat of 5th ranked Catfish (2-6) to sixth ranked Wings (3-5) 86-81 in the game for the fifth place. Wings outrebounded Catfish 51-36 including a 38-23 advantage in defensive rebounds. Ukrainian forward Yevgen Sakhniuk (201-1995, college: Jefferson) had a double-double by scoring 22 points and 27 rebounds to lead the charge for the winners and American guard Jeremy Smith (190-1991, college: Nicholls St.) chipped in 34 points (!!!), 10 rebounds and 5 assists during the contest. American center DeAngelo Hamilton (203-1990, college: WSU) responded with a double-double by scoring 26 points, 16 rebounds, 4 assists and 7 blocks and his fellow American import guard Brachon Griffin (185-1992, college: ECSU) scored 23 points and 6 assists. Catfish's coach tried various players' combinations and tested in total eleven players in this game, but that didn't help. Wings moved-up to fifth place. Catfish lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the sixth position with six games lost. Wings are looking forward to face league's second-placed Buffaloes in Hanoi in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Catfish will have a break next round.
