Another exciting game was again a derby between two local teams from Doha: Al Ahli (#5) and Al Gharafa (#6). Al Ahli (7-8) won against visiting Al Gharafa (5-10) 59-53. They outrebounded Al Gharafa 39-28 including 26 on the defensive glass. Al Ahli looked well-organized offensively handing out 39 assists. American-Nigerian forward Stephen Ugochukwu (201-1996, college: McNeese St.) stepped up with a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 11 rebounds and 11 assists for the winners and the former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) chipped in 11 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists. Ugochukwu is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Al Ahli players scored in double figures. At the losing side American guard Kenny Brown (188-1991, college: Ferris St., agency: SLN) responded with 25 points and 4 assists and the other American import power forward CJ Aiken (206-1990, college: St.Joseph's, agency: BIG) scored 12 points, 9 rebounds, 9 assists and 6 blocks. The victory was the fifth consecutive win for Al Ahli. They maintain fifth place with 7-8 record. Al Gharafa lost their fourth game in a row. They dropped to the seventh position with ten games lost. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Rayyan.
