Regular Season Round 12: Al Ahli - Al Shamal 76-68

There was a small surprise in Doha where seventh ranked Al Ahli (5-8) beat one of their biggest challengers Al Shamal (9-4) 76-68 on Saturday. Al Ahli looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. The best player for the winners was American point guard Johnathan Hudson (180-1987, college: Texas A&M) who scored 25 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 8 steals. American-Nigerian forward Stephen Ugochukwu (201-1996, college: McNeese St.) chipped in 15 points and 4 assists. Worth to mention Ugochukwu played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped get the job in pro basketball. At the other side the best for losing team was Egyptian power forward Moustafa Elmekawi (204-1994) who recorded a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists and point guard Fadi Abilmona (178-1986) added 21 points and 10 steals respectively. Five Al Ahli and four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Al Ahli have a solid three-game winning streak. They moved-up to fifth place, which they share with Al Arabi. Al Shamal at the other side keeps the fourth position with four games lost. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Gharafa.
