Another exciting game was a derby match between two teams from Doha: Al Rayyan (#4) and Al Shamal (#4). Al Rayyan (9-3) won against visiting Al Shamal (9-3) 77-62. They outrebounded Al Shamal 41-30 including 30 on the defensive glass. Al Rayyan players were unselfish on offense dishing 41 assists. They brought some defensive toughness making 9 blocks. It was a great evening for American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 32 points, 10 rebounds and 10 assists. The former international forward Tanguy Ngombo (197-1984) helped adding 17 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Al Rayyan's coach Stergios Koufos allowed to play the deep bench players saving starting five for next games. Palestinian-Canadian forward Shane Osayande (200-1993, college: Saskatchewan) responded with 15 points, 8 rebounds and 8 assists and American guard Sindou Diallo (190, college: Montana Tech) scored 12 points, 8 rebounds, 8 assists and 4 steals. Al Rayyan have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They moved-up to second place, which they share with Qatar Club and Al Shamal. Al Rayyan's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Doha Al Sadd.
