Eighth-ranked Al Ahli (2-8) made lots of trouble for third ranked Al Sadd (8-2) in Doha. Al Sadd managed to secure only three-point victory 90-87. However their fans expected much easier game. Al Sadd players were unselfish on offense dishing 34 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American Vander Blue (196-1992, college: Marquette) who helped to win the game recording 27 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals. American-German forward Waverly Austin (211-1991, college: Oregon, agency: Diamond Sports) contributed with 18 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists for the winners. American-Nigerian forward Stephen Ugochukwu (201-1996, college: McNeese St.) replied with a triple-double by scoring 13 points, 12 rebounds and 12 assists and the former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) added 20 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 6 steals in the effort for Al Ahli. Four Al Sadd and five Al Ahli players scored in double figures. Defending champion keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Qatar Club and Al Shamal. Al Ahli lost sixth consecutive game. They keep the eighth place with eight games lost. Al Sadd's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Gharafa.
