Regular Season Round 54: Toyama G. - Shinshu BW 102-96

There was a small surprise when seventh ranked Toyama G. (12-41) won against at home 4th ranked Shinshu BW (24-28) 102-96 on Sunday. Toyama G. made 28-of-33 free shots (84.8 percent) during the game. They shot the lights out from three sinking 14 long-distance shots on high 53.8 percentage. Toyama G. looked well-organized offensively handing out 35 assists. American center Joshua Smith (208-1992, college: Georgetown) notched a double-double by scoring 29 points and 14 rebounds (on 9-of-11 shooting from the field) to lead the effort and British forward Myles Hesson (198-1990, agency: Octagon Europe) supported him with 23 points and 4 assists. Toyama G.'s coach Honoo Hamaguchi used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Even a double-double of 24 points, 18 rebounds and 6 assists by the former international forward Josh Hawkinson (208-1995, college: WSU) did not help to save the game for Shinshu BW. American Anthony McHenry (202-1983, college: Georgia Tech) added 26 points, 5 rebounds and 5 assists. Four Shinshu BW players scored in double figures. Toyama G. maintains seventh position with 12-41 record. Loser Shinshu BW keeps the fourth place with 28 games lost. Toyama G. will meet at home higher ranked San-en NP (#6) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Shinshu BW will play against Hitachi SRT and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
