Regular Season Round 50: Shanan Utd - Shizuoka 63-88
Date: April 8, 2023
Everything went according to plan when third ranked Shizuoka (42-10) outplayed 13th ranked Shanan Utd (15-37) in Kanagawa 88-63 on Saturday. Shizuoka made 17-of-21 free shots (81.0 percent) during the game. Shizuoka had a 33-22 advantage in offensive rebounds. Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) notched a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 7 assists to lead the effort and Bahamas forward Tavario Miller (203-1994, college: Texas A&M) supported him with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Five Shizuoka players scored in double figures. Even 17 points and 4 assists by guard Shogo Taira (170-1997) did not help to save the game for Shanan Utd. Power forward Blake Aoki (202-1993) added 8 points, 8 rebounds and 4 blocks for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shizuoka have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 42-10 record having just one point less than leader Iwate. Shanan Utd lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth place with 37 games lost.
