Regular Season Round 8: Al Shamal - Al Wakrah 90-85

The game between closely ranked teams ended with fifth ranked Al Shamal's (5-2) home victory over 6th ranked Al Wakrah (3-4) in Doha 90-85 on Saturday. They outrebounded Al Wakrah 44-23 including a 15-4 advantage in offensive rebounds. Al Shamal looked well-organized offensively handing out 44 assists comparing to just 23 passes made by Al Wakrah's players. The winners were led by Egyptian power forward Moustafa Elmekawi (204-1994) who had that evening a triple-double by scoring 12 points, 16 rebounds and 16 assists and American guard Sindou Diallo (190, college: Montana Tech) supported him with 31 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and 9 steals. Five Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Even 41 points (!!!) and 6 steals (on 16-of-21 shooting from the field) by American guard Donte McGill (190-1995, college: FIU, agency: Green Sports Management) did not help to save the game for Al Wakrah. The former international center Ndour Mame Souleye (206-1987) added 12 points, 7 rebounds, 7 assists and 4 blocks for the guests. Al Shamal moved-up to second place, which they share with Qatar Club and Al Arabi. Al Wakrah lost third consecutive game. They keep the sixth position with four games lost. Al Shamal will meet bottom-ranked Al Khor (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Wakrah will have a break next round.
