Regular Season Round 50: Shanan Utd - Shizuoka 55-78
Date: April 7, 2023
Not a big story in a game when 13th ranked Shanan Utd (15-37) was outscored by third ranked Shizuoka (42-10) in Kanagawa 78-55 on Friday. Shizuoka dominated down low during the game scoring 62 of its points in the paint compared to Shanan Utd's 30. Bahamas forward Tavario Miller (203-1994, college: Texas A&M) notched a double-double by scoring 22 points and 16 rebounds (perfect from the field making all ten shots !!!) to lead the effort and American center Kenny Lawson (207-1988, college: Creighton) supported him with 19 points and 13 rebounds. Miller is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Shizuoka players scored in double figures. Even 15 points by guard Shogo Taira (170-1997) did not help to save the game for Shanan Utd. American forward Chris Olivier (202-1992, college: OK State, agency: Octagon Europe) added 12 points for the hosts. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shizuoka have a solid three-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 42-10 record having just one point less than leader Iwate. Shanan Utd lost fifth consecutive game. Newly promoted team keeps the thirteenth place with 37 games lost.
