Regular Season Round 7: Al Ahli - Al Rayyan 54-96

Rather expected game in Doha where 7th ranked Al Ahli (2-5) was rolled over by fifth ranked Al Rayyan (5-3) 96-54 on Wednesday. Al Rayyan forced 23 Al Ahli turnovers and outrebounded them 34-23 including 21 on the defensive glass. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 34 assists. It was a great evening for Senegalese power forward Mouhammad Faye (207-1985, college: SMU) who led his team to a victory with a triple-double by scoring 21 points, 15 rebounds, 15 assists and 4 blocks. American guard Malik Curry (185-1999, college: WVU, agency: Green Sports Management) helped adding 27 points and 11 steals. Al Rayyan's coach Stergios Koufos felt very confident that he used 10 players which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the losing side the former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) responded with 21 points, 6 rebounds, 6 assists and 7 steals and international forward Ndoye Seydou (205-1999) scored 17 points and 4 steals. Al Rayyan moved-up to second place. Al Ahli lost third consecutive game. They keep the seventh position with five games lost. Al Rayyan will meet bottom-ranked Al Khor (#9) on the road in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al Ahli's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Gharafa.
