Regular Season Round 6: Qatar Club - Al Shamal 59-76
Date: March 25, 2023
Very significant was Al Shamal's (#2) 17-point road victory against one of their biggest challengers Qatar Club 76-59. It was a key game for the top position in the league. Al Shamal players were unselfish on offense dishing 40 assists. Egyptian power forward Moustafa Elmekawi (204-1994) notched a triple-double by scoring 21 points, 16 rebounds, 16 assists and 4 steals to lead the effort and Palestinian-Canadian forward Shane Osayande (200-1993, college: Saskatchewan) supported him with 13 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists. Four Al Shamal players scored in double figures. Even a triple-double of 16 points, 11 rebounds, 11 assists and 6 steals by American guard Brian Halums (196-1997, college: UAFS) did not help to save the game for Qatar Club. Serbian Dejan Janjic (198-1995) added 18 points, 9 rebounds and 9 assists. Al Shamal (4-1) keeps a position of league leader. Qatar Club at the other side dropped to the fourth place with two games lost. They share the position with Al Arabi and Al Wakrah. Al Shamal's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Doha to the arena Al Sadd.
