Regular Season Round 44: Fukushima - Yamagata 74-87

Very important is a home loss of third ranked Fukushima (21-25) against sixth ranked Yamagata (19-27) on Saturday night. Host Fukushima was defeated by Yamagata in Fukushima 87-74. They outrebounded Fukushima 52-31 including a 35-24 advantage in defensive rebounds. The winners were led by American James Bell (196-1992, college: Villanova, agency: Slash Sports) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 34 points (!!!), 11 rebounds and 6 assists and the other American import center Thomas Welsh (213-1996, college: UCLA, agency: Pensack Sports) supported him with 13 points and 31 rebounds. Even 23 points and 9 rebounds by Venezuelan center Gregory Echenique (206-1990, college: Creighton, agency: Pensack Sports) did not help to save the game for Fukushima. American forward Josh Harrellson (208-1989, college: Kentucky) added 8 points and 8 rebounds for the hosts. Four Fukushima players scored in double figures. Both coaches tested many bench players and allowed the starting five to rest. Yamagata maintains sixth position with 19-27 record. Fukushima lost third consecutive game. They dropped to the fourth place with 25 games lost. They share the position with Ehime OV. Yamagata will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fukushima will play again at home against Yamagata (#6) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
