Al Shamal smashed Al Ahli in Doha 88-62. Al Shamal dominated down low during the game scoring 60 of its points in the paint compared to Al Ahli's 36. They outrebounded Al Ahli 56-31 including a 38-19 advantage in defensive rebounds. Al Shamal players were unselfish on offense dishing 56 assists comparing to just 31 passes made by Al Ahli's players. Egyptian power forward Moustafa Elmekawi (204-1994) had a triple-double by scoring 19 points, 20 rebounds, 20 assists and 5 steals to lead the charge for the winners and Palestinian-Canadian forward Shane Osayande (200-1993, college: Saskatchewan) chipped in 19 points, 13 rebounds and 13 assists during the contest. Five Al Shamal players scored in double figures. American forward Alex Young (198-1989, college: IUPUI) responded with 33 points (!!!), 8 rebounds and 8 assists and the former international swingman Khalid Abdi (198-1987) scored 16 points, 6 rebounds and 6 assists. Al Ahli will play next round against strong Al Wakrah trying to get back on the winning streak. Al Shamal will try to continue on its current victory against Al Gharafa. It will be extra interesting game as Al Gharafa is their local rival from Doha.
