Regular Season Round 40: Tokyo HT - Yamaguchi 97-106

Date: March 4, 2023
There was an upset when higher ranked Tokyo HT (14-28) was defeated at home by fifteenth ranked Yamaguchi (12-30) 106-97 on Saturday. Yamaguchi looked well-organized offensively handing out 22 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American power forward Michael Phillips (202-1990, college: Howard) who helped to win the game recording 23 points and 6 rebounds (on 7-of-9 shooting from the field) and point guard Rikiya Yamaguchi (180-1996) who added 17 points and 5 assists (made all of his ten free throws !!!) during the contest. At the losing side American power forward John Fields (205-1988, college: Tennessee, agency: Octagon Europe) responded with a double-double by scoring 16 points, 10 rebounds and 4 assists (perfect from the field making all eight shots !!!) and Senegalese forward Bamba Diouf (198-1993) scored 20 points and 7 rebounds. Both teams had five players each who scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yamaguchi moved-up to fourteenth place. Tokyo HT at the other side keeps the eleventh position with 28 games lost. They share it with Kanazawa and Shanan Utd. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
