Regular Season Round 1: Al Riyadi - Orthodox 68-77

Another exciting game was a derby match between two local teams from Amman: Orthodox and Al Riyadi. Al Riyadi was defeated at home 68-77 and even the advantage of their own court did not help. Orthodox forced 20 Al Riyadi turnovers. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. International forward Ahmad Alhamarsheh (197-1987) fired a double-double by scoring 18 points, 12 rebounds, 8 assists and 5 steals (made all of his seven free throws) for the winners. American guard Daxter Miles Jr. (190-1996, college: WVU, agency: Interperformances) chipped in 22 points and 6 rebounds. Orthodox's coach Harry Savaya used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. American swingman Brandon Spearman (191-1991, college: Hawaii) produced 27 points and the former international forward Yazan Al Taweel (188-1993) added 10 points, 12 rebounds and 4 assists respectively for lost side. Orthodox will meet at home Al Ashrafiyah in the next round. Al Riyadi's supporters look forward to another derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Amman Al Ahli.
