Regular Season Round 23: Hitachi SRT - Sendai 89ers 84-77
Date: December 25, 2022
Not a big story in a game in Tokyo where 6th ranked Sendai 89ers (8-15) were defeated by fourth ranked Hitachi SRT (11-10) 84-77 on Sunday. Hitachi SRT looked well-organized offensively handing out 24 assists. The best player for the winners was American Ryan Kelly (211-1991, college: Duke) who scored 13 points and 7 rebounds. International point guard Leo Vendrame (183-1993) chipped in 16 points and 6 assists. Five Hitachi SRT players scored in double figures. American forward Rashawn Thomas (203-1994, college: TAMUCC) produced 16 points and 6 rebounds (was perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line) and the other American import forward Justin Burrell (207-1988, college: St.John's) added 13 points and 6 rebounds respectively for the guests. Sendai 89ers' coach Hiroki Fujita rotated twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Hitachi SRT moved-up to third place. Newly promoted Sendai 89ers keep the sixth position with 15 games lost. Hitachi SRT will meet at home league's second-placed Yokohama BC in the next round and it will be for sure the game of the week. Sendai 89ers will play against Hokkaido L. (#7) and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
