Not a big story in a game when 17th ranked Blue Whales (3-15) were edged by fourth ranked Ducks (12-6) in Sichuan 85-83 on Sunday. Ducks dominated down low during the game scoring 72 of its points in the paint compared to Blue Whales' 44. Ducks forced 19 Blue Whales turnovers and outrebounded them 47-32 including a 19-5 advantage in offensive rebounds. They looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. It was an exceptional evening for Israeli-American forward TJ Leaf (208-1997, college: UCLA) who led the winners with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds. The former international center Ziming Fan (211-1998) accounted for 24 points and 10 rebounds for the winning side. American point guard Marlain Veal (175-1996, college: SE Louisiana) came up with a double-double by scoring 22 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists and forward Dianliang Zhang (200-1997) added 12 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists respectively for Blue Whales in the defeat. Four Blue Whales players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Ducks have an impressive series of five victories in a row. They maintain fourth place with 12-6 record. Blue Whales lost eighth consecutive game. They dropped to the eighteenth position with 15 games lost. Ducks will meet at home league's second-placed Flying Leopards in the next round and it will be quite challenging to get another victory. Blue Whales will have a break next round.
