Regular Season Round 9: Fujitsu RW - Mitsubishi K. 52-53

The most exciting game of round 9 in the WJBL took place in Kawasaki. This derby game ended with only one-point home defeat of 4th placed Fujitsu RW (6-3) to first ranked Mitsubishi K. (8-1) 53-52 on Saturday evening. Mitsubishi K. made 17-of-18 free shots (94.4 percent) during the game. Mitsubishi K. had a 33-20 advantage in offensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Mitsubishi K. made 7 blocks. The former international center Risa Nishioka (186-1997) stepped up with a double-double by scoring 20 points, 13 rebounds and 4 blocks for the winners and the former international Aya Watanabe (168-1992) chipped in 16 points, 8 rebounds and 10 assists. Mitsubishi K.'s coach Koga Kyoko used a ten-player rotation in such tough game. The best for the losing side was international point guard Rui Machida (162-1993) with 11 points, 9 rebounds and 6 assists and point guard Riho Akagi (167-1998) scored 10 points and 5 steals. Mitsubishi K. have an impressive series of seven victories in a row. They maintain first place with 8-1 record, which they share with Toyota A. Fujitsu RW at the other side keeps the fourth position with three games lost. Mitsubishi K. will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Fujitsu RW will play again at home against the league's leader Mitsubishi K. (#1) and is hoping to prove to their supporters that this time they can win.
