Regular Season Round 20: Kanazawa - Tokyo HT 82-89
Date: December 16, 2022
Rather predictable result when ninth ranked Tokyo HT (8-14) won against 12th ranked Kanazawa (8-14) in Ishikawa 89-82 on Friday. Tokyo HT dominated down low during the game scoring 58 of its points in the paint compared to Kanazawa's 26. They outrebounded Kanazawa 48-28 including a 33-14 advantage in defensive rebounds. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Tokyo HT made 7 blocks. The winners were led by American forward Robert Sampson (203-1992, college: Georgia Tech) who had that evening a double-double by scoring 18 points, 10 rebounds and 4 blocks and the other American import power forward John Fields (205-1988, college: Tennessee, agency: Octagon Europe) supported him with 12 points and 14 rebounds. Sampson is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top international summer league in the market. Four Tokyo HT players scored in double figures. Tokyo HT's coach Keisuke Hirose used entire bench and allowed the starting five to rest. Even 35 points (!!!) and 6 rebounds by Ukrainian forward Oleksandr Antypov (203-1995, agency: BIG) did not help to save the game for Kanazawa. Point guard Yugo Okuda (176-1999) added 6 points, 5 rebounds and 11 assists for the hosts. Tokyo HT maintains ninth position with 8-14 record, which they share with Kanazawa and Veertien Mie. Kanazawa lost third consecutive game. Both teams do not play next round, which will be an opportunity for some rest.
