Regular Season Round 12: Tomiris - Turan 77-79

The most exciting game of round 12 in the D1 took place in Almaty. This derby game ended with only two-point home defeat of 3rd ranked Tomiris (8-4) to top-ranked Turan (11-0) 79-77 on Tuesday evening. Turan looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. It was a good game for Ukrainian power forward Ganna Rulyova (183-1986, agency: BIG) who led her team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 18 points, 11 rebounds and 6 assists. The former international forward Zalina Kurazova (185-1985) contributed with 19 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Ukrainian guard Elizaveta Mitina (172-1998) replied with 19 points and forward Valeriya Kapitonova (176-2001) added 16 points and 5 rebounds in the effort for Tomiris. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Tomiris' coach Alexey Eropkin tried various players' combinations and tested in total twelve players in this game, but that didn't help. Turan have an impressive 11-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 11-0 record. Newly promoted Tomiris keep the third place with four games lost. Turan are looking forward to face Caspiy Aktau (#5) at home in the next round. Tomiris will play against the league's second-placed Astana Tigers and it may be a tough game between close rivals.
