Regular Season Round 18: Shizuoka - Shanan Utd 91-64
Date: December 10, 2022
There was no surprise when 9th ranked Shanan Utd (7-12) was outplayed on the road by second ranked Shizuoka (17-2) 91-64 on Saturday. Shizuoka made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. Shizuoka outrebounded Shanan Utd 36-19 including a 29-17 advantage in defensive rebounds. The best player for the winners was Argentinian forward Alexis Elsener (195-1988, agency: Interperformances) who scored 21 points and 5 assists. Point guard Kentaro Yoshida (173-1995) chipped in 16 points and 5 assists. Elsener is a former Eurobasket Summer League player, which is considered top summer league for players who want to play basketball overseas. Four Shizuoka players scored in double figures. At the other side the best for losing team was American forward Chris Olivier (202-1992, college: OK State, agency: Octagon Europe) who recorded a double-double by scoring 25 points and 10 rebounds and point guard Shion Serikyaku (178-1994) added 6 points respectively. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Shizuoka keeps a position of league leader, which they share with Kagoshima. Newly promoted Shanan Utd dropped to the eighth place with 12 games lost. They share the position with Tokyo HT. Shizuoka will again meet at home Shanan Utd (#9) in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Shanan Utd will have a break next round.
