The game between closely ranked teams ended with seventeenth ranked Blue Whales' (3-8) home victory over 18th ranked Pioneers (3-8) 89-88 on Wednesday. Blue Whales looked well-organized offensively handing out 27 assists. Iranian center Hamed Haddadi (218-1985, agency: BIG) fired a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Forward Dianliang Zhang (200-1997) chipped in 12 points and 9 rebounds. American point guard Brandon Jefferson (175-1991, college: MSU Denver) produced 25 points and 5 rebounds and Taiwanese guard Benson Lin (193-1999, college: Bryant) added 15 points, 6 rebounds, 5 assists and 4 steals respectively for lost side. Five Blue Whales and four Pioneers players scored in double figures. Both coaches used bench players in such tough game. Blue Whales maintains seventeenth position with 3-8 record, which they share with Tianjin. Pioneers lost sixth consecutive game. Blue Whales will meet at home higher ranked Sharks (#14) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Pioneers will play against Loongs having rather not much hope for a victory.
