Regular Season Round 16: Gifu - Yamaguchi 98-75

Date: December 3, 2022
There was an upset when higher ranked Yamaguchi (6-11) was rolled over on the road by fifteenth ranked Gifu (4-13) 98-75 on Saturday. Gifu dominated down low during the game scoring 64 of its points in the paint compared to Yamaguchi's 30 and made 16-of-18 free shots (88.9 percent) during the game. They outrebounded Yamaguchi 42-23 including a 29-13 advantage in defensive rebounds. Gifu looked well-organized offensively handing out 21 assists. Worth to mention a great performance of American forward Noah Dahlman (202-1989, college: Wofford) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 19 points and 16 rebounds and the other American import forward Jerrell Wright (204-1991, college: La Salle) who added 19 points and 9 rebounds during the contest. Five Gifu players scored in double figures. At the losing side American power forward Michael Phillips (202-1990, college: Howard) responded with 16 points, 7 rebounds and 4 blocks and point guard Konosuke Tanaka (172-1997) scored 14 points, 5 assists and 4 steals (made all of his eight free throws). The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Gifu maintains fifteenth position with 4-13 record. Loser Yamaguchi keeps the tenth place with 11 games lost. They share the position with Kanazawa. Gifu will again meet at home higher ranked Yamaguchi (#11) in the next round and it may be quite challenging game. Yamaguchi will have a break next round.
