Regular Season Round 6: Barsy Atyrau - Tobol 79-59

The most crucial game of the last round was another loss of top-ranked Tobol (8-4) on the court of third ranked Barsy Atyrau on Wednesday night. Visitors were rolled over by Barsy Atyrau 79-59. It may be a crucial game in the contest for the top position in the league. Barsy Atyrau dominated down low during the game scoring 56 of its points in the paint compared to Tobol's 30. They outrebounded Tobol 48-35 including a 41-25 advantage in defensive rebounds. Barsy Atyrau looked well-organized offensively handing out 29 assists comparing to just 16 passes made by Tobol's players. It was a good game for American guard Eric McGill (190-1996, college: SIU) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 12 points and 10 assists. Russian David Didenko (206-2000, college: UT Martin) contributed with 15 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists for the winners. Five Barsy Atyrau players scored in double figures. Barsy Atyrau's coach Tigran Gyokchyan used entire bench which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. Russian power forward Kirill Gornaev (202-1996) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 5 assists and the former international swingman Pavel Ilyin (194-1992) added 15 points, 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 5 steals in the effort for Tobol. Barsy Atyrau (6-6) moved-up to second place. Tobol at the other side still keeps top position with four games lost. Barsy Atyrau are looking forward to face Aktobe (#4) on the road in the next round. Tobol will have a break next round.
