Very important is a home loss of first ranked Chiba (7-3) against sixth ranked Yamagata (4-6) on Saturday night. Host Chiba was defeated by Yamagata in Chiba 90-77. It ended at the same time the five-game winning streak of Chiba. They outrebounded Chiba 43-27 including 28 on the defensive glass. Great defensive blocking was one of the keys in this match when Yamagata made 7 blocks. American power forward Evan Ravenel (204-1989, college: Ohio St.) produced 20 points and forward Yuto Otsuka (188-1987) added 11 points respectively for the hosts. Five Yamagata and four Chiba players scored in double figures. Both coaches allowed to play bench players saving starting five for next games. Yamagata moved-up to fifth place. Newly promoted Chiba dropped to the second position with three games lost. Yamagata will have a break next round, and it should allow them to practice more before next game. Chiba will play again against Yamagata and hope to secure a win.
