Taishaun Johnson claims Basketball Champions League Asia Hoops Agents weekly honour

American Taishaun Johnson (183-PG-1994) had an amazing evening in the last round for Negeri Sembilan Matrix and that's him to receive a Hoops Agents Player of the Week award for round 6 (Qualifying Round).
The 29-year old playmaker had the game-high 31 points adding six rebounds and nine assists for NS Matrix in his team's victory, helping them to edge out HK Eastern (2-2) 99-97. The game was between two of the league's top four teams. Thanks to this victory NS Matrix moved-up to the 3rd position in Basketball Champions League Asia. NS Matrix is a typical solid league team placed somewhere in the middle or a little bit lower in the standings. But it was their 2nd lost game this season out of 4 games. In the team's last game Johnson had a remarkable 52.9% from 2-point range. He turned to be NS Matrix's top player in his first season with the team. Prairie View A&M University graduate has very impressive stats this year. Johnson is in league's top in points (4th best: 21.7ppg) and averages solid 3.3spg. Worth to mention Johnson played also at Eurobasket Summer League, which helped him get the job in pro basketball.

The second most remarkable performance in last round's games was another NS Matrix's star - young American forward Jordan Tolbert (200-F-1992). Tolbert impressed basketball fans with 27 points, 7 rebounds and 2 assists. It was enough for Negeri Sembilan Matrix to edge slightly higher-ranked HK Eastern (2-2) by 2 points 99-97. It was definitely game of the week between two contenders to the title. NS Matrix consolidated its place in top 3 of the standings. His team's 2-2 record is not bad at all. Tolbert is a newcomer at NS Matrix and it seems he did not have too much trouble to become one of team's leaders. He belongs to the best scorers in the league with 19.0ppg (#9). He also registered 9.2 boards per game.

The third best performed player last round was Canadian Chris McLaughlin (208-C-1992) of second-ranked Hong Kong Eastern Long Lions. McLaughlin showcased his all-around game by recording 16 points, 12 rebounds (!!!) and 4 assists in the last round. Despite McLaughlin's great performance the HK Eastern lost 97-99 to #3 ranked NS Matrix. But his team cannot count on just a single player as he also needs help of the other teammates especially in such crucial game. The last thing HK Eastern needs is to lose another game like this one. They lose more and more distance to the top teams. Their record is 2 victories and 2 lost games. McLaughlin has a great season in Basketball Champions League Asia. After only 5 games, he made it on the list of the league's leaders in points with 16.2ppg (5th best), rebounds with 11.2rpg (2nd best) and assists with 4.0apg (4th best).
