Muharraq complete historic treble with overtime triumph over Manama- April 17, 2026Al Muharraq completed an unprecedented domestic treble on Friday night, rallying from a fourth-quarter collapse to beat Al Manama 89-81 in overtime in Game 4 of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League Finals at Khalifa Sports City Arena, clinching the best-of-five series 3-1.
The title is Muharraq's fifth overall and second in succession under German head coach Peter Schomers. Combined with the Bahrain Super Cup captured in November and the Khalifa bin Salman Cup won last month, it gives the Red Wolves a clean sweep of all three domestic trophies in a single season — a first in Bahraini basketball history. Muharraq appeared to be cruising after a dominant third quarter in which they outscored Manama 33-24 to turn a one-point halftime deficit into a 67-59 lead entering the fourth. But Salman Ramadhan's side, refusing to let their season end quietly, stormed back in the final period with an 18-10 surge to force overtime at 77-77. The extra session, however, belonged entirely to the champions. Muharraq clamped down defensively and poured in 12 points while holding Manama to just four, pulling away decisively to seal the crown. The result caps a remarkable postseason run for Muharraq. They swept Al Ahli 3-0 in the Golden Square semifinals before edging Manama in a tightly contested final series that featured Michael Warren's iconic step-back three-pointer with 5.5 seconds remaining in the Game 1 opener, a composed come-from-behind victory in Game 2, and now the overtime clincher in Game 4 after Manama had briefly extended the series with an 89-83 Game 3 win on Tuesday. For Manama, coached by Bahraini tactician Salman Ramadhan and bolstered by the midseason addition of Smith Donovan (207-C/F-1993, college: Quinnipiac), the defeat extends their wait for a record-extending 26th league title. Ahmed Salman, Mohamed Ghazi, and Smith were consistent contributors throughout the series, but ultimately could not overcome Muharraq's depth and clutch composure. Muharraq's core of captain Bader Abdulla (G), Mahmood Abbas Isa, Warren, Nick West (210-F-1994, college: AAMU), Mohammed Juma'a, Ali Nader (183-PG-1998), and Wayne Chism delivered across all four games, with different players stepping up in key moments throughout the series — the hallmark of a championship-caliber roster. |
