Riffa finish third in Hungary event- September 6, 2024BAHRAIN representatives Riffa finished third overall in the Fiba 3x3 World Tour Debrecen 2024, which came to a close in Hungary. Riffa secured their final classification in the 12-team competition after finishing with 79 points on the standings. They had lost their semi-final game against Miami of the US 17-21, eliminating them from further title contention. They then had a superior overall score over the other losing team in the last four, Utrecht from the Netherlands, who ranked fourth with 71 points. In their semis affair, Riffa faced a 10-15 deficit but fought back to reduce the gap. They came as close as two points, 16-18, following a Jonas Foerts (194-SF-1996) two-pointer, but Miami replied with a Mitch Hahn basket from beyond the arc and then a James Parrott (188-G-1990, college: Midland) free-throw to reach the 21-point target with a minute still to play. Foerts was Riffa’s top scorer with nine points, while Dennis Donkor (194-SG-1991) added four. Caspar Augustijnen (202-PF-1999) had three, and Vic Van Oosterwyck (185-PG-2000) chipped in with one point. Dylan Travis (190-G-1993, college: FSC) had a game-high 11 for the Americans, while Hahn chipped in with six and Parrott four. Ub Huishan NE of Serbia were eventually crowned champions after defeating Miami 21-18 in the final. The Debrecen event was part of the Fiba 3x3 World Tour’s 2024 calendar. The Fiba 3x3 World Tour is the most prestigious event in 3x3 street basketball. It will be making a stop in the kingdom this November 1 and 2 for the second edition of the Manama Masters.
