Al Hala got off to a winning start in the new season of the Zain Bahrain Basketball League, seeing off Al Ettihad 88-83 in an exciting first-round game at the Zain Basketball Arena in Um Al Hassam yesterday. Alex Young (198-F-1989, college: IUPUI) led Al Hala with 37 points, 13 rebounds and three assists. He was supported by Tyrone Nash, who contributed 24 points. Ryle Owens (192-G-1997, college: Young Harris) was the top scorer for Al Ettihad with 23 points. Meanwhile, Elijah Robinson (200-G/F-1995, college: Emmanuel, GA) scored 40 points, along with 10 rebounds and three assists, as Al Najma eased past Bahrain Club 88-62 in another game held yesterday. Joshua Caldwell (203-PF-1991, college: William Penn, agency: Elevate Sports Alliance) chipped in for the winners with 11 points. The first round concludes today with two matches, to be played at the Zain Arena. Al Ahli take on Nuwaidrat at 5.30pm while Manama clash with Samaheej at 7.30pm. The second-round games are scheduled to start next Wednesday.
