The Garmco basketball team continued its winning ways early in the Bahrain Industrial Basketball League (BIBL) after defeating Alba 83-75 played late on Saturday night at the Muharraq Club indoor basketball court.
Garmco used a blistering second quarter shooting display where they outscored their rivals by 11 points to gain the edge in the contest, and never relinquished it.
Both teams battled to a deadlock early on in the game, finishing the first quarter tied at 19-all. Led by stars Yasser Abdul Rasool, Murad Ibrahim and Abdul Aziz Abdul Qadi, the victors took control in the second period and headed into halftime with a comfortable 50-39 lead.
But Alba were not going to go down easy and managed to get back within striking distance, trimming the Garmco lead to five 64-59 at the end of the third, behind valiant efforts from Mahmood Abdulnabi and Manama Club’s Ahmed Qaheri, who caught fire late in the game after a slow start.
Garmco’s team game, however, was too much for Alba in the fourth quarter, and a late run saw the victors close the game out and record their second win of the tournament for a 2-1 win-loss card.
Abdul Rasool scored a team-high 25 points for for Garmco, while Ibrahim finished with 18 points and Abdulqadi chipped in with 14 markers in the win.
Abdulnabi Qaheri finished with 21 points to lead Alba, while Qaheri tallied 18 points in a losing cause. Superstar player, Manama’s Mahmood Ghuloom, was held to a tournament low of 12 points and only two in the second half.
