Premier League Round 12: No surprise as #1 Al-Manama defeats Al-Hala - Jan 8, 2019

Here is the last round review presented by ESL.

Premier League top team - Al-Manama (10-0) added another victory to their record on Sunday. This time they beat seventh ranked Al-Hala (4-6) 87-82. Al-Manama looked well-organized offensively handing out 25 assists. Worth to mention a quality performance of international Wayne Chism (206-87, college: Tennessee) who helped to win the game recording a double-double by scoring 27 points, 16 rebounds and 7 assists and international Mohammed Ameer who added 21 points and 5 rebounds during the contest. The best for the losing side was Hussain Salman with 35 points (!!!) and 5 assists. Undefeated Al-Manama have an impressive nine-game winning streak. Defending champion maintains first position with 10-0 record. Al-Hala at the other side dropped to the sixth place with six games lost. They share the position with Al-Najma. Al-Manama are looking forward to face Al-Ahli (#4) in Manama in the next round. Al-Hala will play at home against Isa Town and is hoping to prove to their fans that the loss was just an accident.
The game in Manama was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Al-Riffa (9-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Al-Ittihad (5-5). Al-Riffa managed to secure a 5-point victory 88-83. The winners were led by the former international guard Mohamed Kawaid (-89) who scored that evening 32 points and Subah Hussain supported him with 11 points and 10 rebounds. Al-Riffa's coach Audrius Prakuraitis used entire bench in such tough game. Even a double-double of 28 points and 18 rebounds by Bosnian-Serbian center Mile Ilic (215-84) did not help to save the game for Al-Ittihad. Al-Riffa have an impressive seven-game winning streak. They maintain third position with 9-2 record behind leader Al-Manama. Al-Ittihad at the other side keeps the fifth place with five games lost. Al-Riffa will play against Bahrain Youth (#12) in Manama in the next round and are hoping to win another game. Al-Ittihad's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will face at home their local rival from Manama Al-Bahrain.
The game in Sitra was also quite interesting. Fourth ranked Al-Ahli (8-2) played at the court of 8th ranked Sitra (4-7). Al-Ahli managed to secure a 8-point victory 81-73 on Saturday. The best player for the winners was Marcel Jones who had a double-double by scoring 26 points and 13 rebounds. Al-Ahli's coach used a ten-player rotation which allowed the starters a little rest for the next games. At the other side the best for losing team was Mansour Kasse who recorded a double-double by scoring 16 points and 14 rebounds. Al-Ahli maintains fourth position with 8-2 record. Loser Sitra keeps the eighth place with seven games lost. Al-Ahli will meet league's leader Al-Manama in the next round and it may be the game of the week. Sitra will play against Al-Najma (#6) in Manama and it may be a tough game between close rivals.

Al-Najma at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Al-Nweidrat's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Samaheej (#13) in Manama.

In the last game of round 12 Al-Muharraq destroyed Al-Bahrain on the opponent's court 86-59.



Al-Ittihad - Al-Riffa 83-88

The game in Manama was also worth to mention about. Third ranked Al-Riffa (9-2) played at the court of 5th ranked Al-Ittihad (5-5). Al-Riffa managed to secure a 5-point victory 88-83. Al-Najma - Al-Nweidrat 70-99

An interesting game took place in Manama where higher ranked Al-Najma (4-6) was upset on its own court by twelfth ranked Al-Nweidrat (2-9) 99-70. It ended at the same time the two-game winning streak of Al-Najma. Al-Nweidrat dominated down low during the game scoring 54 of its points in the paint compared to Al-Najma's 30. It was a good game for American-Guamanian forward Curtis Washington (208-91, college: Georgia St., agency: Haylett Sports) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 46 points (!!!) and 19 rebounds. Hassan Abbas contributed with 12 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists for the winners. International Mohamed Buallay (-95) replied with a double-double by scoring 14 points, 12 rebounds and 9 assists and Fadhelallah Abbas added 20 points in the effort for Al-Najma. Both teams had four players each who scored in double figures. Al-Najma's coach gave up on the game allowing to play ten players seeing no chance for a win. Al-Nweidrat moved-up to eleventh place. Al-Najma at the other side keeps the sixth position with six games lost. Al-Nweidrat's next round opponent will be bottom-ranked Samaheej (#13) in Manama.

Al-Bahrain - Al-Muharraq 59-86

Very expected game in Manama where 9th ranked Al-Bahrain (3-7) was crushed by second ranked Al-Muharraq (10-1) 86-59. Al-Muharraq players were unselfish on offense dishing 28 assists comparing to just 13 passes made by Al-Bahrain's players. It was a good game for the former international center Chester Giles (211-85, college: Oregon St.) who led his team to a victory with a double-double by scoring 20 points and 14 rebounds. Ahmed Aldurazi contributed with a double-double by scoring 15 points and 11 assists for the winners. Five Al-Muharraq players scored in double figures. American forward Lester Ferguson (208-88, college: Robert Morris) replied with a double-double by scoring 27 points and 11 rebounds and Fadhel Abbas added 6 points and 6 rebounds in the effort for Al-Bahrain. The winner was already known earlier in the game, so both coaches allowed to play the bench players saving starting five for next games. Al-Muharraq maintains second position with 10-1 record having just one point less than leader Al-Manama. Al-Bahrain lost third consecutive game. They keep the ninth place with seven games lost. Al-Muharraq will have a break next round. Al-Bahrain's supporters look forward to an exciting derby game next round, where their team will travel locally in Manama to the arena Al-Ittihad.

Manama - Seeb 85:72 Manama conquered the first victory at the FIBA Asia Champions Cup GBA Qualifiers. They topped Seeb from Oman in Group B opener.
